Demand For Solar Trackers In Indian RE Market Rising: Chintan Patel, Sunchaser

Sunchaser is a Gujarat-based single-axis solar tracker manufacturer. These mounted structures help the solar panels rotate toward the sun's direction to maximize energy generation. The company has the experience of supplying its product in around 30 countries across the globe. Chintan Patel, Chief Technology Officer from Sunchaser, discussed the technology in an interview at the Renew exhibition in Hyderabad. The company began as an export-oriented manufacturer until 2021, when it expanded focus to the Indian market. Sunchaser works to organize the previously unorganized solar tracker segment by offering customized solutions for ground-mounted projects with timely after-sales service. Regarding market response, Patel noted that with higher-power modules reaching 540 KW and bifacial solar module advancements, demand for trackers is increasing. The company offers horizontal single-axis trackers and tilted trackers, with tilted versions being more popular in India. Solar trackers benefit medium to large-scale projects ranging from 1 to 100 MW, particularly for captive and Independent Power Producers. Installation adds approximately 7-8% to project costs while typically increasing energy generation by 15%, with some tilted installations achieving 25% gains. Projects typically recover extra costs within two years. Vendor selection is critical, requiring expertise in mechanical components, control electronics, and project management. India's adoption lags other markets but is accelerating, with Patel predicting stronger future growth.
