The PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme is a flagship initiative by the Government of India designed to promote decentralized solar power generation in rural areas. The program supports farmers and rural groups in setting up solar plants, reducing dependence on diesel pumps, and improving long-term energy and water security for agriculture.

Under the PM-KUSUM framework, states like Telangana benefit through:
  • Feed-in Tariff Procurement: State Discoms can purchase affordable solar power generated under the scheme.
  • Lower Transmission Losses: Localized solar generation reduces grid load and enhances efficiency.
  • Support for Farmers: Farmers earn additional income by supplying solar power to the grid.
  • Clean Energy Promotion: Accelerates the transition toward renewable energy and reduces carbon emissions.
  • De-dieselisation: Replaces diesel-based irrigation with clean, reliable solar power.
